Although a predominantly Hindu island, Bali has communities of other religions. During Christmas time, Christian Balinese gather in their masses to unique churches that blend traditional Balinese architectural features. Among the most notable Balinese Protestant and Catholic communities are located in the villages of Palasari and Blimbingsari in West Bali. There are also other notable churches and cathedrals around the Denpasar and Nusa Dua area.

This age-old tradition coincides with the day of Kuningan and features the whole male villagers of Munggu joining in brandishing long stiff bamboo poles onto the streets. Over a thousand jovial participants and curious onlookers flock to the village streets, reenacting the triumphant battles of the Blambangan war. Each of the pole ends are combined in mid-air forming a dynamic pyramid where to friendly opponents climb up this mountain and face-off at the peak. As a niskala, the ritual is intended to protect the village and its people from disaster and other catastrophes.

Nice
Little Hotel

Hotel: Beautiful, not expensive, newly renovated (i think!)and locally owned (not a big chain) Room: Spacious, comfortable bed and nice amennities... (Didn't like the shower setting). Snack and free drink. Pool: Very nice 25 m long poll with black stone Location: PLUS Quiet location compare to Kuta or Seminyak, Luxuriant gardedn and proximity to Jari Menari spa (balinese massage by men contrasting to most in Bali), Taman Bhagawan (Paon Doeloe Resto - one of the best meal of my trip and even better than Bumbu Bali), Bumbu Bali... MINUS: not the best beach Would I go back or recommended? Certainly, mostly for the proximity to Jari Menari, Taman Bhagawan (Paon Doeloe Resto)

Great Villa, Great Location, Great Staff

Tanjung Benoa isn't for everyone, much quieter than Kuta and Seminyak and probably even Sanur, doesn't have the variety for shopping but is perfect if you want an easy place to get to from which to do day trips but be out of the hustle and bustle. Will cost you approximately RP160,000 to get from airport to hotel in taxi, little bit less to go from tanjung benoa to Sanur but heaps of private drivers available where you can get a great day or half day rate instead. We have stayed twice now in their romantic pool villas, they are lovely, small private pool perfect for cooling off and the large hotel pool wonderful for a long relaxing swim. Best things about hotel: Right opposite some wonderful restaurants ..love Cardamon especially but all good, AND the fact you can just sit in one of the many pool lounges right on the beach (which was surprisingly good for swimming in roped off area in front of hotel at high tide) but still have shade of trees if you want and still only steps away from the pool whilst enjoying watching the many watersports or chatting to the local beach vendors ...(yes you can buy cheaper in fixed price stores but not nearly as enjoyable!) The hotel is smaller and quieter than its neighbours of the Novotel and Mirage, have stayed there and would recommend if you have children, bali Khama probably more couple orientated or slightly older children not in need of activities, for us .. Perfect. Thank you Bali Khama, you gave us a wonderful holiday and all of your staff smiling, helpful and friendly.

Great little resort

We stayed with friends who had recommended the Bali Khama as they had stayed 3 times previously. We booked a romantic villa, complete with small private pool. I arranged our transfers directly with the resort prior to arriving, and happy days, they were there awaiting our arrival. The resort is located in a quieter section of Nusa Dua (Benoa) and really changed my perception of Bali. It was predominantly couples. The resort is beautiful, the gardens immaculate and the staff incredibly friendly. In fact, the staff were wonderful and helpful the entire stay, they always remembered our room number. The room was large and clean. The complimentary bar fridge, though not packed, was well stocked and best of all FREE. The only real issue I had with the room was the loudly squeaking doors and the blinds (which didn't really close, so it was very bright early morning), but these are little things. The main pool was massive and next to the beach. The beach really isn't a swimming beach, but if you like jet skis... The pool area was relaxed, lots of deck chairs (with the usual early morning reserving going on), but we never struggled to get a chair. There was an extreme lack of shade on the pool deck, a couple of umbrellas (we were told the lack of umbrellas was due to a storm a month earlier). Food was standard resort menu. We only had a couple of lunches. The bar was adequate during the day and for sunset drinks. There are some fantastic restaurants nearby, so no issues leaving the resort for food. The resort is more boutique and not full of children (nothing against kids, but it's a pleasant change for a resort). The resort had a very couples vibe. Lastly, the spa was excellent, and well priced. The staff really went out of their way to help you relax and there are lots of options, I didn't have to leave the resort and the bill was minimal! Great little resort which we will return to in an instant.
